Good Crafternoon! Do you remember making marbled paper together a few weeks ago?? Well, today’s project is similar, just a little more advanced for our older friends! Using alcohol ink or sharpies we can create marbled coasters! I love how these coasters turned out with all of their bold and bright colors! This is a really hard project to mess up, it’s just a little messy so make sure to put something under your coasters before you start. Alcohol ink stains easily so you want to be careful with it! Also if you’re looking to get alcohol inks to use for your coasters you can get them from Michaels who is currently offering drive-up services!
To create these really bright colors I recommend using 2-3 colors per coaster that you know will mix well together! Cool colors like purple, blue, green, and warm colors like pink/red, orange, yellow all mix well too! Just think “if these colors were paint, what color would they make when I mix them?” if the answer is brown then you probably don’t want to use them on the same coaster. Also, the key to getting lots of texture and detail on your coasters is less is more when it comes to the ink! The ink and rubbing alcohol both evaporate very quickly so you have to work kind of quickly for this project! Be patient, adding a few drops of ink at a time, and watch it expand and swirl. If you add too much ink all the colors will mix together. If you mess up you can always clean off your tile with rubbing alcohol and try again! Also if you will be using these coasters to hold drinks, make sure to have an adult help seal them with a waterproof spray sealant of some kind when they are dry! I can’t wait to see what your coasters will look like! Grab your supplies and...
